Root canal treatment: Relieving pain and saving your natural tooth
Severe tooth pain that does not ease, even at night? Sensitivity to cold or pressure? In these situations, root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is often the right solution.
We can help relieve the pain quickly while preserving your natural tooth and avoiding extraction. The treatment is carried out gently under local anaesthesia and with the use of a microscope for maximum precision.

How root canal treatment can help
Inside each tooth is the dental pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When it becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain that will not resolve on its own.
Root canal treatment:
- removes the source of the pain;
- stops the infection from spreading;
- helps preserve your natural tooth.
Without treatment, the inflammation may lead to further complications or make extraction necessary.
What happens during root canal treatment?
The procedure is always carried out with a strong focus on your comfort and a pain-free experience.
1. Examination and treatment planning
We first assess the condition of the tooth and clearly explain the recommended next steps.
2. Local anaesthesia
The treatment is performed under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during the procedure.
3. Treatment under a microscope
Using an operating microscope, we thoroughly clean and shape the root canals. This allows us to work with a high degree of precision and improve the success of the treatment.
4. Root canal filling
The cleaned canals are sealed tightly to help prevent the infection from returning.
5. Tooth restoration
Finally, we restore the tooth with a filling or recommend further treatment, such as a crown, to ensure long-term function and stability.
Root canal treatment can often be completed in a single appointment, although more than one visit may be necessary in some cases.

How root canal retreatment can help
Sometimes, symptoms may return even in a tooth that has already undergone root canal treatment.
Typical signs include:
- pain when biting;
- pressure around the tooth;
- the formation of a pus-filled swelling on the gum;
- pain caused by changes in air pressure, for example during a flight or in the mountains.
In such cases, we may recommend root canal retreatment. Using a microscope, we remove the original root canal filling and address any complications before thoroughly cleaning, disinfecting, and treating the canals again.
When should you book an appointment?
Do not delay treatment if:
- your tooth has been painful for several days and the pain is getting worse;
- the pain does not respond to standard painkillers;
- your tooth is sensitive to cold, heat, or pressure when biting;
- the pain wakes you at night;
- swelling or a pus-filled bump has appeared on the gum.
Early treatment significantly increases the chance of saving the tooth.
